A Community of Readers

One District-One Book Postscript, February 11, 2011:

Our "Princely Party" on February 9 was a terrific event! We had over 90 participants who played Little Prince Jeopardy, designed royal postcards, created magnificent crowns, flew paper airplanes through the desert and planted very special flowers. After the activities, we gathered in the Palos South Commons to distribute raffle prizes and view videos showing student projects. Many thanks to everyone who participated in this One District-One Book Community Reading Project!

Our chapter activities, podcasts and quotations will remain online in this blog for everyone to enjoy and for other schools to use or adapt. Please take some time to view our student projects on our district website.

Chapter 16

Chapter Podcast by Mrs. Nadine Antonini, District 118 Board of Education Member

Chapter Quote:
"It was awe-inspiring."

Think & Read:
The author thinks that it would be magnificent to watch the lamplighters light their lamps on Earth from space.  What things have you seen that you think are magnificent or awe-inspiring?  Why are there no lamplighters today?

Optional Activities:
Click on this link to NASA to view pictures of the Earth at night.  Click on the map of the U.S. or the map of Europe and North Africa.  Print it (or copy and paste it) and then label four of the bright spots on the map with the city or geographical feature they represent.
