A Community of Readers

One District-One Book Postscript, February 11, 2011:

Our "Princely Party" on February 9 was a terrific event! We had over 90 participants who played Little Prince Jeopardy, designed royal postcards, created magnificent crowns, flew paper airplanes through the desert and planted very special flowers. After the activities, we gathered in the Palos South Commons to distribute raffle prizes and view videos showing student projects. Many thanks to everyone who participated in this One District-One Book Community Reading Project!

Our chapter activities, podcasts and quotations will remain online in this blog for everyone to enjoy and for other schools to use or adapt. Please take some time to view our student projects on our district website.

Chapter 18

Chapter Podcast by Mrs. Sue Hennessy, District 118 Board of Education Vice President

Chapter Quote:
"Men...they have no roots, and that makes their life very difficult."

Think & Read:
Why did the flower think there were only 6 or 7 people on Earth?

Optional Activities:
1)  Think of your favorite flower.  Write a description of it.  Write the name of the flower on the back of the page and see if someone can guess the name of the flower you are describing.
2)  Imagine you have roots.  Draw a picture, or write a story, poem or song about having roots.
3)  When most people talk about having "roots," they are talking about their families.  Make a family tree.
4)  Make a word search of important words or characters from Chapters 10-18.  Here is a website you can use to help you make the word search:  http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/WordSearchSetupForm.asp

  1. The flower was on The Little Prince's planet witch is really small so he only thought there was only a couple people on Earth.
